I never make New Year’s resolutions. Mostly because I don’t think they are a good way to change a bad behavior, but also because I like to be a little different. It’s not advisable to be too different though, and change is usually a good thing. So this year, I am making December First Resolutions:
1. Get up early. Early according to my standards that is. More about this in a later entry.
2. Don’t take my phone everywhere. I’m already good at not having it at the dinner table, but lunch and breakfast deserve the same attention. I’m sure I won’t miss it while watching TV or a movie either, and I really don’t need to check my email more than a few times a day. There is a Buddhist saying that goes: ‘While walking, walk. While eating, eat’. I’m not a Buddhist, but I do believe in focus and simplicity, so no more phone gazing while doing other stuff.
3. Move. Again, more about this later.
4. Drink more water. Apparently, that’s healthy and it keeps the brain hydrated and thus more alert.
Let’s meet again here in a few months for an update on how I’m doing with these!
